03 — From idea to business
Venture creation
Moving from a technology thesis to a proposition, a team and a route to market.
- Venture Creation
- Technology Thesis
- Validation
- Business Model
- Partnerships
- Fundraising
Situation
A market opportunity visible in the data long before it was visible in the category, and a founding team deciding how much to commit before validation.
Specific venture details pending confirmation for publication.
What mattered
Spending the minimum required to be wrong quickly. The MVP is a decision instrument, not a product launch.
The decisions
What to validate before building anything, which parts of the stack to buy or partner for, what the business model had to be true for, and who needed to be in the founding team.
My role
Founder-side judgement: technology thesis, proposition, build/buy/partner, partner selection, team shape, and preparing the story for investors where relevant.
Outcome
Detail and results pending confirmation for publication.
What I learned
Conviction is cheap at the idea stage and expensive at the build stage. Sequence the decisions so the expensive ones come last.
